Here is the first of the Grey Knights finished so I could get the green light on the rest of them from my customer. He pretty much wanted to stick with the book color sheme and I gave some blue glowing lenses and a lightning pattern on the force sword. Really happy with how the lava bases are turning out. the Paladin and Dread Knight bases have even more room for the cracked effect. Hope you all enjoy!

Looks really good, how did you do the bases, did you buy them like that?
ReplyDeleteExcellent work man, did you use cork?
ReplyDelete@Warflake Yep, I used cork for the bases. You can get a lot of mileage out of the cork sheets available at craft stores.
ReplyDelete@ WH I used the Reaper HD orange as my base color, then Khador Red Highlight (close to blazing ornage) and Hellfire (close to golden yellow). I then washed it with Baal Red and wen up on the rocks on a bit to hel p teh effect that the rock is still cooling. Then a final layer of Hellfire.
Great job! I'm really not a fan of painting models silver. They usually just look unpainted. And I was suspect at your WIP pics. But this final model is really good.
ReplyDeleteThanks. Metallic models I am not really a fan of either, but the GKs have enough on them to break up the monochrome look. I left the joints black and adding the blue the force weapons hekps break it up too.
ReplyDeleteI did a little more inking to the joints to make them more pronounced and put a little orange highlights on the underside of the lava rock to give it some heat glow. I also took off the glow highlight off the tops edge of the helmet since it wasnlt really natural for the way it was modeled and reduced the racoon effect I wasn't happy with. The changes will show up when I take the squad pic later.
